What do we do at Bendel Medical Research Center? We conduct clinical drug trials, the last testing phase before a medication receives FDA approval. Prior to clinical drug trials, a new medication has been tested and refined for many years to meet strict FDA standards for clinical trials. What is the purpose of a clinical drug trial? Drug trials are designed to assess the medication’s safety and usefulness in treating a particular medical condition. For this reason, participants are carefully chosen and carefully monitored for potential side effects. Who can participate? In addition to age and gender requirements, each study has specific inclusion and exclusion criteria. If you meet these criteria, you are considered a possible participant. What should I expect if I choose to participate in a clinical drug trial? The doctor conducting the study carefully evaluates your suitability for the study. If you are a good candidate, you begin the trial and are closely monitored for the study’s duration. How will I know about any risks involved? We guide you through the Informed Consent process – a full explanation of what the study involves, including information on possible risks. All your questions are answered to the fullest possible extent. Then you can decide for yourself if you want to participate. Who protects my rights? The FDA sets strict guidelines for clinical drug studies. In addition, an Institutional Review Board (IRB) made up of health professionals and lay members review each study before it begins.
